Biography

Without Remorse

In 1971, Oreza was a Quartermaster First Class (QM1) in the United States Coast Guard and a good friend of John Kelly. Portagee witnessed Kelly disappear below the surface of the water after his boat is rammed and sunk by a freighter and believed him to be dead.

Clear and Present Danger

By 1988, Oreza had been promoted to Master Chief Quartermaster (QMCM), serving aboard the USS Panache.

Debt of Honor

By 1991, Oreza had retired from the USCG. He had moved to Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands with his wife and had become a captain for a charter fishing boat. Following the start of the war between the United States and Japan, Oreza fed information about the Japanese presence on the island to the National Military Command Center (NMCC) through Admiral Robby Jackson. This proved vital in alerting the U.S. government of the invasion of the Japanese in their attempt to take over the Marianas Islands. Oreza later had a reunion with John Kelly who had faked his death and changed his name to John Clark.
