John Tait is a character that appears in the novel, Without Remorse.
Biography
Tait was the WSO of Colonel Robin Zacharias's F-105 during the Vietnam War. In 1970, they were down during a Wild Weasel strike over North Vietnam. Tait was killed from the crash while Robin was captured. Zacharias was initially held at the gun emplacement that had shot their fighter down. As a form of torture, the NVA placed Tait's body beside Zacharias. An NVA intelligence officer from Hanoi later arrived to confirm Zacharias' identity. After Zacharias passed out from his injuries, the intelligence officer swabbed Tait's blood across Zacharias' face and took photos of him. Afterwards, Zacharias was sent to a secret POW camp.
