Mark Dehart
Mark Dehart is a character that appears in the novel, Oath of Office. He is the current Secretary of Homeland Security under U.S. President Jack Ryan.
Biography
Mark Dehart grew up on a Pennsylvania dairy farm where his father and grandfather had worked. Dehart used the money he had earned from working on the farm to pay his way through undergrad at Pennsylvania State and a master's degree in biology from Carnegie Mellon. Dehart later became a congressman. Following Andrew Zilko's resignation as Secretary of Homeland Security in 2011, Dehart was nominated to succeed him.
Dehart was later confirmed by the Senate. This came as a surprise to him as Senator Michelle Chadwick, the Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee of the Senate, had freqently given him a hard time due to her grievances against U.S. President Jack Ryan. Dehart later met Ryan in the Oval Office to go over his new position and address any concerns.
