Redeye

The Redeye is a weapon used in the Ryanverse.

Background

It was an older weapon being phased out of U.S. Army use by the time of Patriot Games.

Characteristics

The Redeye was a man-portable surface-to-air missile launcher system, firing the Redeye missile.

History

Patriot Games

In the year prior, several Redeye missiles had gone missing, either stolen from National Guard armories or bought from corrupt Army supply sergeants. They were being sent to the PIRA, who attempted to use one to shoot down an SAS helicopter but missed. This event was covered up by the British and never made the papers.

Later, during the ULA assault on Jack Ryan, Sr.'s house, Sean Miller used one stolen from the PIRA to shoot down an FBI helicopter carrying the Hostage Rescue Team.
