General Sam Wilson, codenamed CINC-SNAKE, is a character that appears in the Rainbow Six novel.

Biography

Sam Wilson enlisted in the US Army and received airborne and ranger training before moving to Special Forces. He later separated from the Army to obtain a history degree at North Carolina State University. Afterwards, he rejoined the Army through a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and rapidly worked his way up the ranks. Wilson became the commander of the XVIII Airborne Corps. By 1999, he had obtained the rank of General and assumed command of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Rainbow Six

With the formation of Rainbow in 1999, Wilson was forced to transfer several members of Delta Force to the new counter-terrorism unit. Wilson became disgruntled as a result of this as he was not only losing his best men but Rainbow was also moving in on his territory. Despite this, the CIA shared all classified information that pertained to Rainbow's operations to Wilson.

Following Rainbow's successful rescue of Erwin Ostermann and his staff, CIA director Ed Foley contacted Wilson and requested that he supply Rainbow with a helicopter and a pilot. While reluctant, Wilson transferred Daniel Malloy to the unit. A short time later, John Clark contacted Wilson directly to request that he lend Rainbow a Night Hawk for Malloy to train with and use on operations. Wilson argued over the matter but ultimately conceded on the condition that the parent unit of the helicopter was able to part with it and that taking it did not interfere with the unit's training and readiness.
