Biography
In 2008, Alden served as the Deputy Director of the CIA. Following The Emir's capture and transfer to FBI custody, Alden identified Campus operatives John Clark and Domingo Chavez from the Emir's rough sketches of the men who captured him. He then gave this information to Paul Laska who then enlisted the help of SVR officer Valentin Kovalenko for collecting information about the former's CIA activities. This was done in order to find damning information about Clark which would discredit former President Jack Ryan who was running against Ed Kealty in the 2008 Presidential Election. Kovalenko uncovers Clark's unauthorized assassination of an East German Stasi operative in Berlin in 1981, which is not part of the full presidential pardon Ryan had signed for his friend and making him accountable for murder. Laska covertly gives the dossier to Kealty, who then orders the FBI to hunt down Clark. Alden then blackmailed CIA Analyst Melanie Kraft to start a relationship with Jack Ryan, Jr. to find more information about his connection to The Campus. Following Ryan's election as President, Alden was arrested for leaking information to Laska.
