Li Zhengsheng is a character that appears in the novel, Power and Empire. In 2011, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the People's Republic of China.
Biography
Following Zhao Chengzhi's succession as the President of China in 2009, Li became angered at Zhao's moderate stance toward national and international issues. In 2011, he created a cabal of like-minded government officials that plotted to escalate tensions between China and the United States, hoping it would lead U.S. President Jack Ryan to invoke the Ryan Doctrine and order to have Zhao killed on account of his supposed recklessness, therefore paving the way for Li's ascension into power.
