President Zhao Chengzhi is a character that appears in several Ryanverse novels. He is the current President of the People's Republic of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.
Biography
Chengzhi succeeded President Wei Zhen Lin in 2009 following his death. His moderate stance on national and international issues angered hardliners in the Chinese government, particularly Foreign Minister Li Zhengsheng, who perceived him to be a weakling. As a result, Zhengsheng created a secret cabal in 2011 that plotted to escalate tensions between China and the United States and lead U.S. President Jack Ryan to order Zhao to be killed, therefore paving the way for Li's ascension into power.
