London

London is a city in the Ryanverse, the capital of the United Kingdom. It appears in nearly every novel.

Background

The streets of London were not laid out with automobiles in mind, but was a fine town to walk in. The architecture was a hodgepodge ranging from Octavian Augustus to Mies van Der Rohe, but most of the buildings have an old, comfortable look. It had a profusion of green spaces.

Patriot Games

At the start of Patriot Games, Jack Ryan, Sr. and his family are taking a vacation to London when the Prince of Wales and his family are attacked by the ULA at The Mall. Ryan intervenes, knocking out Sean Miller with a tackle before shooting him in the hip with his own pistol to keep him down, before shooting the second gunman, saving the royalty. Ryan was shot in the right shoulder and dislocated his left tackling Sean, so he was taken to a local hospital, meanwhile Cathy Ryan and Sally Ryan were taken to Buckingham Palace to stay while Jack was recovering.

Later, after he has recuperated enough to only require a cast, Jack and Cathy get a tour of The Tower of London.

Later Legal Attache to the American Embassy Dan Murray and Metropolitan Police officer James Owens get an anonymous tip and arrest a PIRA bombmaker living just across the street from the Tower, but grow suspicious when they realize nobody could have seen her there.
