"Look, Pal, we're collecting samples, and then we have to analyze the debris. So, take a number, get in line, and we'll have the report out tomorrow."
— Lorna Shiro to Jack Ryan

Captain Lorna Shiro is a character that appears in the film, The Sum of All Fears.

Biography

In 2002, she was the leader of the Air Force Radiation Assessment Team (AFRAT) that analyzed the plutonium used in the nuclear bomb that detonated in Baltimore. CIA officer Jack Ryan arrived at the AFRAT command center and met with Shiro, demanding she give him the origin of the bomb's plutonium. Shiro initially tells Ryan to wait until the next day for their report but is convinced to speed up their assessment. Shiro then calls AFRAT specialists Wesson and Stubbs to check on their status. With the radiation intensity too great at only a quarter mile away from ground zero, Shiro tells them to head back as she operates a drone and drives it to the epicenter. Shiro then takes samples and brings them back to the command post to analyze.

After Wesson and Stubbs arrive back at the command post, they conclude the bomb's plutonium was manufactured at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina in 1968, proving that the Russians were not involved in the attack.
