Lieutenant Mordecai "Mutti" Zadin is a character that appears in the novel, The Sum of All Fears.
Biography
The older brother of Benny Zadin, Mordecai was an A-4 Skyhawk strike fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. During one mission, his plane was assaulted by Syrian tanks. Zadin mananged to destroy the tanks but a Syrian surface-to-air missile damaged his plane’s right wing. This resulted in the wing breaking away from the plane and causing Zadin to crash to his death. Unbeknownst to Zadin, his plane had been carrying a nuclear weapon which now laid buried in a farmer's field for decades. This weapon was later retrieved by Palestinian terrorists and was used to bomb the Denver Super Bowl in 1991.
Trivia
Zadin remains unnamed in the film but retains his role from the novel.
