President Zorkin is a character that appears in the film, The Sum of All Fears. He served as the President of Russia until his death in 2002.
Biography
In September 2002, Zorkin served as the President of Russia. His health was steadily declining at this time, causing him to gain a considerable amount of weight and have trouble walking. Despite his efforts to conceal them, Zorkin's health problems were well known throughout the world, especially to the CIA and President J. Robert Fowler. During a morning press conference, Zorkin spoke about the war in Chechnya and proclaimed that it was part of Russia before he walked off. Afterwards, Zorkin complained about the questions he received relating to his health. He informed his aid that he was to be described as "robust" and "healthy" in reports. A few moments later, however, Zorkin suffered a heart attack and fell backwards. Zorkin was pronounced dead 0720. Eight and a half hours later, Alexander Nemerov was sworn in as the next Russian President.
Trivia
- His death is a reference to the death of the real life leader of the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov. In the novels, President Andrey Narmonov succeeded Yuri Andropov as the leader of the Soviet Union after the latter died from a heart attack.
