Dr Rita Russell is a character that appears in the film, The Sum of All Fears.
Biography
Rita worked at Baltimore Memorial Hospital and is a friend and coworker of Cathy Mueller. In September 2002, Rita spoke with Cathy about her new boyfriend, Jack Ryan. Cathy told Rita that it seemed to her like Ryan had trouble committing, unaware of his job as an analyst in the CIA. This surprised Rita who pointed out that they had only been on three dates. An unimpressed Rita was then told by Cathy that Ryan used to be in the U.S. Marine Corps until he hurt his back and now worked as a historian. As they were washing up, Cathy asked Rita to tell her what she thought of Ryan when they met for dinner that night. This never happened, however, as Ryan had been forced to cancel in order to travel to Russia.
A month later, Rita and Cathy were on shift when a nuclear bomb had detonated in Baltimore. The hospital was far enough away from ground zero that it only suffered damage from the initial shockwave, injuring Rita and the other staff. Despite this, Rita and Cathy worked tirelessly to treat the wounded.
