Biography

The Sum of All Fears

In 1991, he worked as Dan Murray's second-in-command in the FBI.

Executive Orders

In 1996, O'Day still worked as Murray's second-in-command in the FBI as a "roving inspector". In the story, he foils a plot by terrorists to kidnap Ryan's daughter, Katie, at Giant Steps, her private grade school, where Day's own child is a student. While there to pick up his own child, Day is present in his child's classroom when the two gunmen kill their teacher in cold blood and take all the students hostage. Day had been carrying his own service pistol, hidden under his coat. Seemingly submitting to the demands of the gunmen but waiting for a precise time to act, Day is able to shoot and kill one of the gunmen. When he turns his pistol on the second, who is holding an Kalashnikov rifle on Katie Ryan, Day is able to kill the 2nd man. He quickly grabs his own child and Katie and walks out of the building, signaling to the Secret Service agents outside he is not a threat and that he has the President's daughter.
