Andre Herr is a character that appears in the Rainbow Six novel. He was part of a terrorist attack by former Action Directe members on World Park in Spain.

Biography

Born in Paris, France, Andre was member of the Action Directe until its dissolution by the French police in 1987. He worked as the plans and operations officer for the organization for over a decade, having planned and executed a total of eleven murders.

In 1999, Carlos The Jackal had his lawyer notify Andre and other former members of Action Directe of his desire to be released from prison. Led by René, Andre and his associates traveled to World Park to enact a plan that would result in Carlo's freedom. René ordered Andre and Esteban to apply for jobs at the park to scout it for information. The pair was hired and subsequently attended "World Park University" for training. Afterwards, Andre was placed in the security department due to being fluent in French, Spanish, and English. At the end of one shift, he accompanied several security guards to the park's money counting room. Andre was genuinely amazed by the operation and the sheer amount of money that was profited each day.

After two weeks of patrolling the park, René finalized their plans to launch the attack. On April 2nd, Andre and his associates launched their attack and took employees of Thompson CSF and their families hostage. With René leading the attack, the hostages were corralled into the park's replica medieval castle. It was their hope that Thompson CSFs importance to the French Government would force them to release Carlos and several other comrades from prison.

Following Rainbow's arrival at the park, John Clark had the park engineer cut the power to the castle. A few seconds later, René contacted the park's control room and spoke with Rainbow's negotiator, Paul Bellow. Ignoring Bellows attempt to profile him, René demanded that the power be turned on immediately or else he would kill a child. After cutting the line, René asked Andre to select a child to execute. Without hesitation, Andre choose a wheelchair bound Anna Groot as his victim. The power had not been restored after ten minutes had elapsed, prompting Andre to wheel Anna to the castle entrance. With the world watching, Andre fired his weapon into Anna's back through her heart, killing her instantly. He then pushed the wheelchair down a curved path where it rolled into the courtyard and stopped. Rainbow Operator Homer Johnston had Andre on target but was ordered not to fire as it would put the other hostages in jeopardy.

A few hours later, René stated that they would kill a hostage every hour starting at 2200 unless their demands were met, prompting Clark to initiate the rescue operation. René grew suspicious as Rainbow was preparing to breach and ordered Andre to survey the courtyard for activity. This initially saved him as René and the eight other terrorists that were still inside the castle were killed during the assault. Unfortunately for Andre, however, Homer Johnston located him in the courtyard, requesting for Dieter Weber to disarm him by shooting his weapon. Seeking revenge for Anna Groot's death, Johnston purposely fired at Andre's internal organs, causing him immense pain. With the area now safe, the park's physician, Hector Weiler, started attending to Andre's wound. With Johnston arriving to check on Andre's condition, Weiler informed him that the bullet had torn through Andre's liver and spleen and that under the current circumstances he would soon die. Weiler then administered Andre morphine to ease the pain, much to Johnston's disappointment. As Andre lay dying, Johnston stood by his side and locked eyes with him until he passed. Satisfied, Johnston departed to retrieve his gear.
