Klaus Rosenthal is a character that appears in Rainbow Six.

Biography

Klaus Rosenthal was born in the later 1920s. He was orphaned as a boy and became an apprentice to a jeweler, learning to make fine metal items. This trade saved his life during World War II when he was taken captive and forced to work in a metalworking shop at the Belzec concentration camp in Poland. Rosenthal was liberated with the defeat of the Axis Power though the experiences of the Holocaust would haunt him forever. To cope, he became a skilled gardener which brought peace for the idea of making living things grow pretty and healthy. He eventually met and married his wife, Hilda. Decades later, Erwin Ostermann recognized his gardening skill as a gift and offered him a job for the rest of his life as his head gardener at his home outside of Vienna, Austria. In the early 1990, Hilda was diagnosed with a progressive heart condition which worsened by 1996 and kept her invalidated for the next three years. Ostermann helped Rosenthal and his wife by sending a professor from Vienna's Algemeine Krankenhaus to oversee her case. A new drug administered to Hilda began to improve her condition somewhat, much to Klaus' relief.

Rainbow Six

In 1999, Dimitri Popov contracted Hans Fürchtner and Petra Dortmund to kidnap Ostermann for "special access codes". Fürchtner and Dortmund subsequently lead a group of terrorists into Ostermann's home and took him and his staff hostage. During the terrorists arrival, Rosenthal had been in the kitchen with the other domestic staff getting a drink of water. The irony of being inside when the terrorist broke in was not lost on Rosenthal. He began to feel guilty, wondering if he'd been able to alert the authorities had he been outside like normal. As the terrorists began to remove everyone from the kitchen, Rosenthal felt he had to do something and hid a paring knife up his right sleeve. During Rainbows rescue operation, Rosenthal familiarly with the lawn allowed him to note Dieter Weber sniper position to himself. Following Chavez's order to engage, Rosenthal seized on the terrorists confusion to stab one of them in the hand with the paring knife. This cleared the way for Steve Lincoln and Weber to dispatch the terrorist. After clearing the building and tending to the hostage, Mike Pierce thanked Rosenthal for his efforts.
