Biography

A former member of the KGB, he excelled as a field officer and was promoted to the rank of Colonel at age thirty-eight. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kirilenko remained a field operative of a downsized agency of the new Russian Government. With Moscow fearing that the expansion of NATO could be the precursor of an attack on Russia, Kirilenko was posted as the Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy in London, England to act as a resident spy (rezident).

Rainbow Six

In 1999, Kirilenko met with an old acquaintance, Dimitriy Popov, at a pub three blocks away from the Russian Embassy. Knowing of Kirilenko's status as a rezident, Popov asked Kirilenko to dig up information on CIA agent John Clark, revealing that Clark was posted at Hereford Base and was the leader of a new black ops counter-terrorism team. In exchange, Popov would give Kirilenko any information he had on Clark. Kirilenko agreed and both men exchanged contact information. Unbeknownst to the pair, members of the Security Service were conducting surveillance on Kirileno, taking several photos of their meeting.
