Biography

Wilhelm Altmark is a police captain in Vienna, Austria. In 1999, Erwin Ostermann and his staff who had been taken captive in Ostermann's home by a group of terrorists led by Hans Fürchtner and Petra Dortmund. Ostermann's executive assistant, Gerhardt Dengler, alerted the authorities of the situation through an alarm button under his desk. Captain Altmark arrived to access the situation shortly after. He informed his superior that they were currently in the dark and that he would set up a perimeter as soon as new units arrived.

With no demands having been given by the terrorists, Captain Altmark made first contact. Ostermann picked up the phone and promptly handed it to Hans Fürchtner. Fürchtner claimed to be "Commander Wolfgang" of the Red Workers Faction and threatened to start killing hostages by midnight unless they were given transport to Schwechat International Airport and that several of their "friends" be released from various prisons. He then read a list of names to Captain ALtmark to be released from prison.

Rainbow arrived onsite a short time later and took control of the operation from Altmark. Altmark briefed Team 2 leader Domingo Chavez of the current situation. He said of how the two ring leaders were German, not Austrian and that the Red Workers' Faction which "Commander Wolfgang" had claimed to be apart of did not exist. Additionally, Altmark told Chavez that Ostermann owned a private helicopter and pad two hundred meters from the house and that they had a flight crew ready to pilot it in order to meet the terrorists demands.

While planning their move, Chavez told Captain Altmark that they would give the terrorists what they want to give them a false sense of control. To accomplish this, Chavez told Altmark to have his men set up spot lights around the building. He then had Captain Altmark contact the terrorists again to confirm Ostermann's whereabouts. Captain Altmark requested the release of two hostages as a sign of good faith while they waited for their demands to be met. Fürchtner denied this request as he knew the hostages would help the police identify them and give more insight on the current situation. Dortmund then reminded Captain Altmark that they would start killing hostages at regular intervals as a show of force if their demands were not met.

A few minutes before midnight, Rainbow Operator Eddie Price arrived at the home disguised as the getaway helicopter pilot. Fürchtner and Dortmund then made their way to the helicopter with Ostermann, Denglerm and another hostage. Chavez waited until the remaining terrorists had left the building to join Fürchtner and Dortmund and then order Team 2 to engage and eliminate them which ended with success.
