Biography

Colonel Robert Gamelin was a former tank officer in the French Army. During his time in the military, he led the development team for the LeClerc battle tank's second-generation fire-control system. After retirement, he later became an executive for the French arms manufacturer, Thompson CSF.

In 1999, Gamelin was among the six hundred employees who had traveled to World Park for a company outing with their families. During their visit, the employees were surrounded by former members of Action Directe who subsequently took the employee's children hostage inside the park's replica medieval castle. Gamelin immediately notified his corporate headquarters and chairmen, eventually leading Rainbow to be called to handle the situation. Gamelin then took accountability and verified that thirty-three of the group's children had been taken along with two disabled children.

With the group growing frantic, Gamelin called his chairman again to amplify his initial report and compiled a list of the children's names. Once complete, he took his people away from the castle, found a park employee, and was escorted to the park's alternate command post where he met the park's Director of Operations, Mike Dennis, and Captain Dario Gassman of the Spanish Civil Guard. Gamelin reported the number of missing children to both men and insisted that the Foreign Legion's special-operation's team be called in. Gassman stated that he would look into it.

After Rainbow neutralized the terrorists and saved the children, they were approached by Gamelin. He asked the operatives if they were part of the Legion. Louis Loiselle answered "In a way, monsieur," before joining his other teammates back in the park's underground network.
