Anne Pretloe, also known as Subject F5, is a character that appears in the Rainbow Six novel. She was among many young women that were abducted by Kirk Maclean to be used as test subjects for the Shiva virus.

Biography

Anne Pretloe was born in 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2000, she had recently graduated from college and moved to New York City to search for job as a legal secretary. She subleased a studio apartment and was awaiting the delivery of the rest of her belongings. One night, Pretloe visited a local singles bar called the Turtle Inn Bar and met Kirk Maclean. Pretloe was charmed by Maclean and spent the night dancing and drinking with him. Once the bar closed, Pretloe was too intoxicated to refuse Maclean's offer to drive her home and to notice that he deliberately drove in the wrong direction. Maclean met up with an acquaintance who drugged and transferred Pretloe to their blue van. Pretloe was then taken to a Horizon Corporation research facility in Binghamton, New York which was being used by The Project to conduct tests with the Shiva virus.

Pretloe was designed Test Subject F5 and was subsequently exposed to the Shiva virus. Pretloe was continually administered tranquilizers to lower her resistance to "loose behavior". This enabled a male test subject, Chip Smitton, to rape Pretloe, Mary Bannister, and the other female test subjects. This led the facility's lead scientists, John Killgore and Barbara Archer, to discover that the Shiva virus was able to be transmitted through sexual contact.

Over the next several weeks, Pretloe continued to have sexual contact with Smitton as her body started to succumb to the Shiva virus. It was during this time that a drugged Mary Bannister managed to leave her room and send an email to her father, jumpstarting an FBI investigation. FBI Agents Tom Sullivan and Frank Chatham later connected Pretloe's disappearance with Bannister's but were unable to find any leads. Meanwhile, Killgore, Archer, and the other Project physicians concluded that it medically impossible to cure someone exposed to the virus and determined that it was time to dispose of their test subjects. Through lethal injection, Barabara Archer killed Pretloe, Bannister, Smitton, and the other remaining test subjects. Afterwards, their bodies were wrapped in plastic and taken to the facility's incinerator to eliminate any evidence.
